"He said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and continues down to the ‘Aravah. When it enters the sea, the sea of stagnant water, [the Dead Sea,] its water will become fresh. When this happens, swarms of all kinds of living creatures will be able to live in it wherever the streams flow; so that there will be a vast number of fish; for this water is flowing there, so that, wherever the river goes, everything will be restored and able to live."
(Ezekiel 47: 8-9 Complete Jewish Bible)
Recently, while reading daily devotions I read this passage of scripture that truly and deeply impacted my heart and mind. As I meditated on God's word and its implication on mankind I began to yearn for God's anointing to rest on my life so much so, that my presence would do just as His word describes, bring life to those around me.
When considering water, especially fresh water, reports of its diminishing presence from the earth brings great concern to conservationist and should bring concern to all seing how it is vital for sustaining life; not only human life but animal and plant life. According to the USGS Water School of Science, "About 71 percent of the Earth's surface is water-covered, and the oceans hold about 96.5 percent of all Earth's water (https://water.usgs.gov/edu/).
Understanding just how important water is to life is quite easy: Without it everything dies. So then, when considering this passage of scripture Ezekiel describes this vision of fresh water pouring out of the temple running down into the Dead Sea bringing life to everything in the Sea and along the paths leading down into it. Everything will be restored and able to live. Life restoration occurs.
Further study explains the metaphors as Christ being (the Temple), wheretofore the waters ran out on the right side, signifying that from Zion should go forth the law and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. Further, there it was that the Spirit was poured out upon the apostles, and endued them with the gift of tongues, that they might carry these waters to all nations. In the temple first, they were to stand and preach the words of this life, Acts. 5:20. (Mathew Henry Commentary)
As disciples (followers) of Christ, heirs with Him in all things, the Spirit should flow mightily through us with His gospel, that life springs forth to all that we have the opportunity to encounter. As the people thronged Christ, desiring His presence and company so much so that often He would alone go away to pray, so should the children of the Most High. Others should "desire" our presence because of the life manifestation, restoration and empowerment the Spirit brings through us.
Our encounters with others (including family, friends & strangers) should be so that they want more and more refreshing that they to should want to be empowered with the Holy Spirit with transformed lives and minds likewise to impact the world through the gospel of Christ.
I want to live a life that attracts others to Christ through the sharing of His everlasting Word, through His undying love, and His free gift of salvation to whosoever desire it. Wow! What a life lived!
